At Carpenter Elementary the Third & Fourth grade students will be learning how to play the Baroque soprano recorder; a woodwind instrument from medieval times. The students will participate in a program called Recorder Karate. Students earn belts for their recorder as they learn and play songs with accuracy.Students can practice and earn the belts at their own pace as we learn how to play on the instrument. They will be responsible for bringing their instrument and any handouts to every class period. It is IMPERATIVE that they have these materials during EVERY class. Students who are not prepared with these materials will not receive their participation points for that day. All assessments will be done using Seesaw and the students and parents can view those at any time online. The teacher will check all submitted assessments daily and provide feedback to the students.
Third Grade will complete level 1 and can continue into level 2 if needed.
Fourth Grade will complete level 2 and can continue in to level 3 if needed.
The songs used are taken from Recorder Karate, published by Plank Road Publishing. Students must download and/or print the Recorder Karate book located at the link below in order to practice these songs.
